Understanding DKIM Authentication
What is DKIM?
DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) is an email authentication method designed to detect forged sender addresses in emails. It allows the receiver to check that an email claimed to have come from a specific domain was indeed authorized by the owner of that domain. This is achieved by affixing a digital signature, linked to a domain name, to each outgoing email message.
Why is DKIM Important?
Email Security
DKIM helps protect your domain from email spoofing, which can be used for phishing attacks, business email compromise, and other fraudulent activities targeting your customers and partners.
Improved Deliverability
Emails signed with DKIM are far less likely to be marked as spam by major providers like Gmail, Microsoft 365, and Yahoo, dramatically improving inbox placement rates.
Brand Integrity
By ensuring that your emails are cryptographically authenticated, you maintain the trust and integrity of your brand while protecting recipients from impersonation attempts.
DKIM Record Components
v=DKIM1 Version identifier (always DKIM1)
k=rsa Key type (RSA is most common)
p=<public_key> Base64-encoded public key
t=s Flags (s = strict mode, optional)
