MailWizz is one of the most capable low-cost platforms for running your own email marketing service. For $275 once, its Extended license gives you customer accounts, price plans, payment gateways and unlimited delivery servers. Thousands of senders run it, and for many of them it is the right tool.

Teams start looking at MailWizz alternatives for a handful of reasons: they want journey automation, they want a vendor who installs and supports the platform, or they want fewer major upgrades to plan around. I build Octeth, one of the alternatives on this page, so weigh my view accordingly. Every fact below was checked on the vendors' own sites on 2026-10-03.

How MailWizz works today

From mailwizz.com, as of October 2026:

  1. Licenses: Regular ($79 lifetime) for your own use, Extended ($275 lifetime) to run it as a service or charge customers. Yearly subscriptions are also offered at $59 (Regular) and $219 (Extended). A subscription is valid for one year. If it is not renewed, the application goes offline five days after expiry until a valid license is provided, and your data stays untouched. A lifetime license does not expire.
  2. Support: every license includes one month of Premium Support. After that, support packs are sold separately. Purchases on CodeCanyon are supported on mailwizz.com, not on CodeCanyon. No trial and no refunds. A demo site is available.
  3. Upgrades: MailWizz 3.0 (2026-08-19) requires PHP 8.2 and a manual upgrade from 2.x, and 2.x moved to maintenance mode. 2.0 followed the same pattern.
  4. Features: unlimited delivery servers that can be used together, customer accounts and groups with limits, price plans and payment gateways (Extended), regular, autoresponder and recurring campaigns, A/B tests, landing pages, surveys and an API. A visual journey builder is not listed on its features page.

Closest to MailWizz

Acelle Mail is the most direct alternative: a Laravel application on CodeCanyon with an Extended license for SaaS use, plan and billing management (Stripe, PayPal, Braintree, Paddle and others), sending credits, and load balancing across sending servers including local Postfix or Exim. It adds a visual automation designer with branches and A/B testing, and includes six months of support.

Interspire Email Marketer is still sold and maintained: version 8.8.0 shipped on 2026-09-18. It is a perpetual license with no remote license server, five user accounts, unlimited contacts and white-labeling included. Updates and support cover the first year. The software keeps working if you do not renew.

Mumara Campaigns sells its self-hosted license monthly or yearly, from $7 to $27 a month and up, with lifetime updates while you are on a cycle. It has sending nodes, bounce and feedback-loop handling, split tests on all tiers, and reseller packages on the Commercial tier. A white-label add-on is announced but not shipped as of October 2026.

Simpler or free

Sendy is the budget choice if you mainly send newsletters through Amazon SES and do not need customer billing. Mautic is the free choice for automation with lead scoring and landing pages. listmonk is the free choice for fast newsletters. None of the three is built to run a multi-tenant email service.

Both run many client accounts with their own limits on your servers, through as many delivery servers as you connect. The differences are in automation, operations and the relationship:

  1. Automation: Octeth includes a journey builder with decision branches, waits with delivery windows, email and SMS steps, and webhooks. MailWizz lists autoresponders and recurring campaigns.
  2. Delivery routing: Octeth assigns delivery servers per client group and per channel (marketing, transactional, autoresponder), so a high-risk client cannot hurt the others.
  3. Install and upgrades: Octeth installs in Docker on a clean Ubuntu server, and we do the installation with our customers. MailWizz installs as a PHP application on a server you prepare.
  4. Support: Octeth is sold with installation, onboarding and support from the team that builds it, and customers can request features and plugins. MailWizz includes one month of support, then support packs.
  5. Price: MailWizz is far cheaper to buy. $275 for the Extended license against $5,500 for Octeth's first white-label license (Solo), or $12,500 for 150 client accounts (Studio). Octeth's case is the cost of the operations around the license: setup, deliverability, outages, and who you call.

If you run a handful of clients and are comfortable operating the stack yourself, MailWizz is hard to beat on price. If email is a revenue line for your agency, the support relationship is usually what you are paying for.

Moving from MailWizz

  1. Lists and suppression: export lists with custom fields, plus unsubscribes, bounces and complaints. Import the suppression data first.
  2. Customers: recreate each MailWizz customer as a client account in its group, with its limits and sender domains.
  3. Delivery servers: reconnect the same relays or SMTP servers. Your SPF, DKIM and DMARC records stay valid. The SPF and DKIM checker confirms them after the move.
  4. Campaigns and autoresponders: move templates, and rebuild autoresponders as journeys.
  5. Volume: if sending moves to new IPs, ramp up with the IP warm-up planner.
